• Originally built in 1864 by the International Order of Odd Fellows (I.O.O.F.), the building at 645 5th Street began as a two-story lodge constructed for local fraternal orders; expanded in 1905 with an additional wing and interior staircase, historical records indicate it hosted gatherings of many lodges on the upper floors, while retail businesses of all types occupied the lower level

Architectural Significance

• With its brick façade and Italianate-style detailing, the building stands as one of Lincoln’s earliest substantial civic structures. Seismic reinforcements, foundation and major infrastructure upgrades—including elevators, roof, plumbing, and electrical systems—were implemented during a restoration in the early 2000s, preserving its historic essence while ensuring modern safety and ADA compliance.
